Melvin Smith came to work for
Pryor Police Department in 1979 as a patrolman. Since that time Melvin has
worked patrol division as a Patrolman and later he was promoted to Sergeant.
After many years of working the streets, Melvin transferred into Detective
division and partnered with the legendary Jim Rush. Melvin worked the next
several years as a detective and was noted for his ability to build solid
cases as well as solving challenging cases. Melvin's last promotion landed
him in the position of Administrative Assistant Chief of Police. His duties
in this position include commander of detective division, communications and
jail divisions. Melvin is married to Lois (our Records Clerk). His favorite
past time is going to his home in Cozumel, Mexico where he enjoys scuba
diving.
